Cucumbers contain three different types of lignans which reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease as well as several cancer types, including breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancers. They are helpful for diabetes because they contain a hormone needed by the cells of the pancreas for producing insulin. A compound called sterols in cucumber helps reduce bad cholesterol.
For those days when you find yourself too busy to drink water, try snacking on some fresh cucumbers. They are 96% water and they help keep you hydrated. Cucumbers can also help relieve heartburn. Forgot to apply sunscreen while at the beach for the day. Applying cucumber to your skin can help relieve that painful sunburn.
Cucumbers can also flush waste products out of your body and have been known to help dissolve kidney stones. Cucumbers contain vitamins A, B, and C which give you energy and help boost your immune system.
A few other health benefits that you can receive from cucumbers are that it helps with weight loss, helps relieve muscle and joint pain, it makes your hair and nails stronger, and it contains fiber which is great for digestion.
We have begun growing our own cucumbers on the Towers which has been so much fun. Every day we go out and find one we missed the day before. We have them outside so the bees pollinate them for us, but if you grow indoors you can hand pollinate with a paintbrush.
1 Bunch of Basil Leaves
1 Garlic Clove
1 Tbsp of Nutritional Yeast
1/4 tsp of Salt
2 tsp of Lime Juice
